Computers grow more powerful all the time. Scientists are trying to invent an artificial intelligent machines without emotions. Future robots will never be able to have true consciousness like us because they will not be able to dream or to experience real emotions like we do. This quote means that robots can human can not have true consciousness unless it can have emotions. I agree with this quote that robots will never be able to have true consciousness like us. In Ray Kurzweil’s The Singularity Is Near, and David Gelernter’s “Dream-logic, the Internet and Artificial Thought”, I will argue that robots will never be able to have true consciousness like us.
Machines can do a lot of skills. Based in Ray Kurzweil’s The Singularity Is Near, Kurzweil says “Nonbiological intelligence will be able to match and exceed peak human skills in each area” (Kurzweil 139). Kurzweil shows that the is optimistic for the future of super intelligent machines. I agree that machines can do skills what human can not. I know that computer is the best chess player in the world. That does not mean that they have consciousness. Computers just do what they have programmed to do. “Machines can pool their resources in ways that humans cannot” (Kurzweil 139). In humans cannot memorize everything like
machines, but they have consciousness.
Based in David Gelernter’s “Dream- logic, the Internet and Artificial Thought,” David Gelernter says “ No computer will be able to think like a man unless it can free-associate” (Gelernter 202). Gelernter shows that he is pessimistic for the future of super intelligent machines in this quote. If a computer stopped working or solving problems for a moment, computer is not still thinking. It is mind is not still at work or solve problems. That means that computer cannot free-associate. Also David Gelernter says “No computer will be able to think like a man unless it can hallucinate” (Gelernter 202). This quote means that humans hallucinate when they fall asleep and dream. And when they hallucinate and fall asleep and dream. I agree with Gelernter I both quotes that computer can not think like a man unless it can free-associate and hallucinate.
To have emotions is able to have consciousness. David Gelernter says “No computer will be creative unless it can simulate all the nuances of human emotions” (Gelernter 205). Gelernter means that can not have consciousness unless it can feel happy, sad, angry etc. Gelernter argues that our imperfections in congnition help us create, feel and think. So computer cannot have consciousness because it does not have emotions. Machines will simulate consciousness perfectly, but they will be zombie(s) (Gelernter 207. Gelernter means that computers would have no inner mental; world would in fact be unconscious (Gelernter 207). He means that computer seems to think, but it would be unconscious.
Gelernter argues that the body makes the mind (207). Gelernter means that emotions are produced by brain and body working together. But, computer does not have a body. So, computer can not produce emotions without the body. That means it will never have true consciousness like we do. Even if Kurzweil argue that machines will be able to mach and exceed peak human skills, it will never have consciousness unless it can feel happy, sad, angry …. etc. Even if computer can solve problems, it will never have consciousness because solving problems do not produce emotions.
In conclusion, to have true consciousness must have a body and a brain, so brain produce emotions. So, robots will never have true consciousness unless they have emotion. That is what Gelernter argues about, and I agree with him.

Sharing a Research Paper Sourse
The most important source that I have found so far in my research paper is "My Autism Made Me a Cowgirl Superstar" by Tom Leonard. It is about how autism helped her to be the toast of Hollywood. I found this article in LexisNexis.
